Have you long harbored a curiosity about the book publishing industry and how it is that manuscripts and ideas become books? Have you left an earlier career…and are eager to get back in the game?

Lucinda Literary is excited to announce a new editorial and marketing assistant position. In this role, you will primarily handle the company calendar, scheduling calls and meetings with authors and editors, but will also be responsible for reviewing and lending editorial input on fiction and nonfiction projects, and creating content for the company blog. You’ll be part of building a book—from the ground up. For those who bring research and marketing acumen, we’re looking for self-starters to assist with our speakers bureau.

  • You have previous literary agency or publisher experience.
  • You have experience writing and editing in a professional capacity (i.e. for a publication, company blog or newsletter) and track-editing (in either MS Word or Google Drive).
  • You bring incredible attention to grammar, spelling, and detail, excellent written and interpersonal skills, total professionalism, intellectual curiosity.

We are additionally looking for a high-energy, self-motivated, creative, do-it-all intern with a passion for books and an interest in pursuing a career in publishing.

Tasks to include:

  • scouting writers for representation, reading and responding to queries
  • assisting in manuscript and book proposal editing and submissions
  • researching event opportunities for authors
  • weekly social media posting for company and client Facebook pages/Twitter feeds
  • writing and/or editing blog posts for the company website

This is primarily an editorial, research, and administrative position ideal for gifted writers and communicators who want to gain experience in the representation side of publishing. Interns will benefit from a diversity of experience transferable to any full-time position in publishing, marketing/PR, or digital.

Requirements: College seniors or graduates with excellent research, writing, and organizational skills. Previous publishing experience a plus, but not required. The internship requires a commitment of 3 days in office per week at our midtown Manhattan location. This is an unpaid internship, but can be used for school credit.
